Dr Flint and Dr Kelly perform the operating. Dr Grant Coulter, a senior Christchurch general surgeon and endoscopist, consults, assesses and performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy, and refers on to Dr Kelly or Dr Flint when surgery is needed.

A highly respected and experienced Christchurch general surgeon and endoscopist with 40 years of surgical experience. Dr Coulter is available for general surgery consultations and endoscopy. He sees and assesses patients with abdominal pain and performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy as necessary.
Dr Coulter no longer performs surgical procedures. If your assessment or endoscopy shows that surgery is needed, he refers you directly to Dr Kelly or Dr Flint, so your care stays within the one practice.
No. All three surgeons accept direct referrals from patients. A GP referral is helpful because it brings your history and test results with you, but it is not required.

Private surgery is performed at St George's Hospital and Southern Cross Hospital in Christchurch. Both operating surgeons also work in the public system at Christchurch Hospital.
Keyhole gallbladder surgery is usually one night. Anti-reflux and hiatal hernia surgery is usually one to two nights, with a return to work in about two weeks.
Preoperative testing typically includes gastroscopy. Oesophageal pH testing and manometry are arranged when clinically indicated.
